If you are a perfectionist, even the tiniest imperfections can be bothersome. What could go unnoticed to most is a primary focus for you. Even though this may seem odd to others, that uneasiness is justified at times.

For instance, a dent on a garage door may seem insignificant to some, but if they don’t act on it, the dent will become worse, causing more problems. Then, before you know it, the entire door is completely ruined. But you don’t have to stand by and wait for that to happen. Instead, read this blog so you can learn how to repair a dented garage door.

Why A Dented Garage Door Needs Repairs

That tiny dent you’ve noticed in your garage door could be more significant than you think if you neglect it. If you have steel or aluminum garage doors, a dent can be especially detrimental. When these two materials are dented, they are susceptible to rusting due to moisture exposure. If you know anything about rust, you know that it thrives in environments with moisture and high humidity.

Additionally, a dented garage door can prevent your door from closing and opening all the way, even making a lot of noise whenever it is in operation. It can also cause your door to become lopsided. So, as you can see, it’s best to take action as soon as possible before things start to derail.

How To Repair A Dented Garage Door

Before we get started, there are a few things you will need. Gather a cloth, soap, water, aluminum foil, a compressed air can, pliers, and a hair dryer. With these items, you can begin the first method of repairing your dented garage door.

Method One – Using A Hair Dryer

First, you need to clean the dented area of your door with water and soap. This will remove any dirt and debris so it doesn’t interfere with the remaining steps. Get the aluminum foil and cover the dent with a piece once the dented area is dry. This piece of foil should, of course, be larger than the dented area.

To keep yourself safe for the following step, use the pliers we mentioned earlier to hold the foil in place. Get your hair dryer and set it to the highest setting while holding the foil over the dented area. After doing this for about a minute, repeat the process using the compressed air can. This should do the trick, but if you’d prefer a different approach, the next method will also work.

Method Two – Using A Hammer

This method is a bit different from the last and will require different materials. In addition to the cloth, soap, and water, other items needed for this method include a wood block, a rubber mallet or hammer, sandpaper, patching material, a putty knife, paint, and primer. Once you acquire these materials, you can begin.

Start by using soap and water to clean the dented area. Place the block of wood over the dent and gently hammer the dent back into place. This is a delicate process, so don’t go overboard. Once that is done, sand the area to make it more even.

Cover the dented area with patching material, then smooth it out with a putty knife. You only need primer and a paint color that complements your door after sanding it down once more.  Once you’re done painting, your door will look brand new.
